Reporting on the conflict between the mega mining project Conga and the people of Cajamarca, Peru
The women of Celendin gathered today in the centre of the city to march against the Conga mining project – marking World Day against Mining 2013. They came wearing green – representing nature, carrying representations of the lagoons, and pinning on their backs photos of solidarity sent from many corners of the world. The women marched through the streets chanting phrases such as `Water is a treasure, that is worth more than gold` and called for other women to join the fight – a fight that will decide if their children will have clean water, or if the decisions of this generation will condemn future generations to a life without this precious gift from nature.
