Reporting on the conflict between the mega mining project Conga and the people of Cajamarca, Peru
The 28th September 2014, the anniversary of Celendin, was made historical once again as the Plataforma Interinstitucional Celendina (PIC) lauched their long awaited newspaper ´Resistencia Celendina´.
Due to the bias and misinformation that comes from the mass media – both print and radio, the PIC, the platform of social organisations and grassroots groups who form the main resistance against the mega mining project Conga in Celendin, undertook the task of producing a newspaper by and for the movement.
The contributions include ´The social and environmental crimes of Yanacocha´, ´Why Conga is inviable´, ´A guide to voting in Celendin´ (a satirical evaluation of the mayoral candidates of Celendin), ´The world says Conga no va!´, ´10 year anniversary of the victory at Quilish´, ´For the defence of the life and rights of Maxima Chaupe´ and many more. It is hoped, if funding allows, that this will be a monthly production.
The lauch of the newspaper was celebrated by the PIC, the public and renowned writers and performers of ´Agua si, Oro no´ – Tinkari.
Copies of the newspaper can be found at the Casa de Maestro, Celendin.
