CAJAMARCA: Communities protest against the irresponsibility of Minera Yanacocha

broken promises

A police contingent arrived to evict more than 800 residents of the Aliso Colorado and Quishuar communities who remain near Yanacocha`s Open Pit Quinoa Sur in Cajamarca.

Local leaders reported that this protest is taking place due to Yanacocha`s failure to provide water to the community after its water sources had dried up as a result of the company`s mining activity. They said they will not withdraw until Yanacocha meets with this, and other, demands.
